Sustainable Living
The primary reason driving the advent of pod houses is sustainable living.
Sustainable living is about living not only within our personal means, but within the broader context of planetary resources. It is not simply a question of how much we can extract and how fast we can cover the planet with our own structures. It is about leaving a true inheritence for our children and grandchildren, a legacy for future generations.
By living within reasonable limits of consumption and being conscious of the impact our own lifestyles have on planetary resources, we become better global citizens.
Designs such as pod houses, micro houses, and efficient living spaces have tremendous potential for limiting one of the great causes of waste and mismanagement in our culture. Choosing to live in a modest house not only conserves our personal resources, it conserves societal resources.
Compact Houses
The pod house fulfills a very specific role in reducing the footprint of ubran sprawl by a considerable amount. In less populated areas, the pod house allows the individual to retain more land for beauty, agriculture or other purposes. A well designed pod house can blend seamlessly into its environment, helping to build an attunement with the natural surroundings that our current culture is sadly lacking in.
Eco Friendly Housing
Compact housing encourages efficient use of resources. Energy maintenance requirements for pod houses are minimal. It is much easier to both heat a smaller area and adequately insulate it. Additionally, choosing to live within the constraints of a pod house forces an individual to make decisions about what is truly important of their possessions. This helps accelerate the transition to an informational and service based society away from the consumerist society which was the hallmark of an earlier and less conscious time. By making careful decisions about what is important in life, one quickly becomes aware of the value of quality and utility. This in turn frees the individual from the blind pursuit of the work production cycle and allows them to focus on quality of life instead.
Since it takes less resources to maintain a smaller house, it gives the owner the option of allocating their time differently. As this becomes an accepted part of societal living, community, family and social experiences will greatly enrich life experiences.
The pod house provides an opportunity to live an eco aware life, and return to a balance with nature, that had been forsaken by those who were caught in the cycle of more more more.
